Just Can't Get Enough

Introduction: Oh, my goodness, what a delightful and endearing compact hatch of a car! The test unit I drove came with my new favourite colour from Hyundai, called Spark Green. Every single person that I introduced the i10 to, commented on how divine the colour was! Maybe it’s the green in me as in conservation or because the colour just goes like an ice cold refreshing Flying fish beer and lemon mix, but whatever the reason is, I am certain that if there was only one reason, it will be simply, because it’s a mighty fine set of wheels! I absolutely loved cruising around the leafy suburbs of Westville, running various errands in preparation of the historic RWC Final that we hosted at our home on Saturday. I even did a drive around Westville and then to the Berea with the SA Flag flying out the window, bringing the wanted attention to our country, the Springboks, the i10 and sort of to my daughter, well not entirely, when I picked her up from school!

Engine/ Economy/ Drive/ Comfort: The 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol unit, delivers a healthy 61 kW and 114 Nm of power. This unit came with a smooth 5 speed manual gearbox, but there is also an automatic transmission on offer. With a fuel tank size of 37 Liters and a claimed 5.5 Liters per 100 kms, this is a winner for anyone wanting a reduced fuel bill from a car that can get you to Jhb with one tank. My economy was a tad thirstier, like me when I was watching the RWC Final, at 7 Liters per 100 kms, but expected as I put the i10 through its paces between robots to check acceleration and braking. I am pleased to say that the i10 drove well, was comfortable, stuck well to the tar on corners with the lovely 15-inch alloys and an all-round solid feel.

Features: The 20 cm touch screen Bluetooth, infotainment screen is well positioned on the user-friendly dashboard and comes standard with Android Auto and Apple Car play with voice control too. I liked the C type and A type USB ports on the front dashboard, along with the 12 V socket and the A type USB connection in the rear. Other nice to haves include, Cruise control, a rear camera, Ambient mood lighting, Vanity mirrors for the driver and passenger, Cargo screen, luggage net, heated electric side mirrors, drivers auto window, excellent air-conditioning, remote key entry, transponder immobiliser, alarm, and floor mats.

Interior/ Exterior/ Boot: I found the i10 to have ample cabin space with the interior having a robust yet elegant feel, with a well-designed and ergonomically presented dashboard. The i10 from the outside, is visually appealing and is a crowd favourite especially with this stunning new colour! The revised front bumper and grille looks superb with new LED daytime running lights as standard on this model. I like the elongated rear stop light that looks great on the boot, which has a decent size of 360 Liters, which is standard for this size of a vehicle and was more than adequate for a few bags, packets of groceries and a cooler box.

Price/ Warranty/ Service Plan: R285500, with a 7-year/ 200000 km manufacturer warranty and a 1 year 15000 km service plan

In Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed driving this well priced little beauty all around Durban this past week – the week that history was made with the Bokke’s back-to-back RWC Final win, against their arch-rivals, New Zealand! Well done to the Springboks - another 4 years of being the RWC Champions and 4 more years of good reasons to Braai and celebrate our gorgeous country! If you are looking for a cool car, that is economical, spacious, drives very capably and you are wanting something that you Just Can’t Get Enough of, then have a look at the Hyundai Grand i10.
