Round 3 of the 2022 Global Touring Cars (GTC) championship is set to take place this weekend, at the Aldo Scribante Circuit in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. All three TOYOTA GAZOO Racing SA GTC Corollas will be in action again, with the experienced Michael van Rooyen leading the charge. He’ll have teammates Mandla Mdakane and Saood Variawa in support.

The team has traditionally done well at the Aldo Scribante circuit, and Van Rooyen is upbeat about their prospects for the weekend: “We had mixed results at the previous round, but we’ve done a fair amount of work on the cars since then. We’re confident that we have three well-prepared Corollas for this event, and will be looking to add to our points tally this weekend.”

As it stands, young Variawa is the leading TGRSA driver on 51 points, with Van Rooyen five points behind on 46. Mdakane had a challenging start to the season, and is currently on 26 points in 8th place.

This weekend’s racing promises to be an exciting affair, with clear weather predicted for both Friday’s practice sessions, and Saturday’s races.
