For years, Mitsubishi had a solid fan base in South Africa thanks to the prominence of the Colt bakkie. Following its redesign to the Triton, Mitsubishi found itself losing much of its reputation. Now, with a strong product offering and improved customer service, the brand has made significant strides in rebuilding its following. As a solid member of their range, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is an adaptable vehicle that offers a versatile SUV journey.
On The Road
While it does share part of its name, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is completely different to the standard Pajero (which was discontinued in 2020). Built with a 2.4-litre engine, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2.4DI-D Aspire feels a little underpowered but is quite smooth thanks to the efficient 8-speed automatic transmission. Beyond its power, the prominent height and size of the vehicle allow you to feel in total control of every situation. This is accentuated by the firm brakes and simple steering which round out the overall driving experience.
On The Inside and Outside
The unique angles of the modern Mitsubishi brand flow throughout the Pajero Sport. The refined futuristic design is most notable from the outside and offers an eye-catching attractive nature that is guaranteed to turn heads. This style may not be for everyone but many individuals will appreciate the distinctive look of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport’s exterior.
Taking a step inside, the interior is extremely comfortable but also a little too basic. You have everything you need, but some of the technology lacks the advancements of similar vehicles within this price range. Blind-spot detection is one such feature that isn’t present here but probably should be. With this in mind, the digital instrument display and hands-free voice control functionality are two additions that are certainly welcome.

Final Thoughts
Costing R686 995, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is priced similarly to its competitors and manages to stand confidently amongst them in terms of quality. While there are a few areas that could be improved, the Pajero Sport delivers a package that is certainly impressive.
