The creation of off-road icons is something that Jeep has always been famous for. From the old-school Scrambler to the adventurous Wrangler, this brand has successfully built some of the most memorable vehicles in history. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that they have done it once again. The new Jeep Gladiator is a true titan on every terrain and is unbelievably impressive in every situation. There is no doubt that this vehicle will quickly become another motoring legend.

On The Road

As soon as we began driving the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, we became aware that this is what real adventure feels like. While its large size may not be attractive for certain drivers, there are many more that will feel a rush of excitement as they embark on their journey. With a 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine that brings 209kW of power and maximum torque of 347Nm, the Jeep Gladiator feels like a beast without limitations. This is true off-road as well since the Active On-Demand 4x4 System features a variety of options that will surely suit any area that you choose to explore.

On The Inside and Outside

Viewing the Gladiator from the outside, this vehicle could have easily been pulled out of a videogame. The core Jeep design has been upgraded with a variety of unique elements that create a character filled with personality. Although the space at the back does make this a bakkie, that description is far too simple for such a special vehicle.

Impressively, the inside of the Jeep Gladiator contains many futuristic features that stand in contrast to the rugged exterior. While a lot of the technology is protected by rubber, there are a number of elements within this vehicle that make driving extremely easy. Displaying all driving parameters, the 7” TFT digital instrument is certainly a welcome addition. Furthermore, while the reverse camera is expected, its visual quality is far beyond that of any other car on the market today.

Key Features

Final Thoughts

With a price tag of R1 299 900, the new Jeep Gladiator Rubicon doesn’t come cheap. However, for all the reasons listed in this review, it is clear that this vehicle is completely worth it. It may not be a bakkie for everyone but for many, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime icon.
