Opel
Opel is an automobile company founded by Adam Opel in 1862. The company is headquartered in Rüsselsheim, Germany. It became a majority-stake subsidiary of the General Motors Corporation in 1929 and has been a wholly-owned subsidiary since 1931.
Opel is one of the most technologically advanced automobile manufacturers in Europe. They have a long and rich history. Opel is shaped by their passion for cars. Together with Vauxhall, they sell vehicles in over 40 markets in Europe. The company operates plants and development centres in seven European countries.
In 2011, they sold over 1.2 million passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Europe, achieving a market share of 6.1 percent.
Opel was distributed via Delta Motors until 2003. They sold the Opel Kadett, Opel Corsa, Opel Ascona and Opel Senator. The current Opel range in South Africa comprises the Opel Astra,Opel Corsa,Opel Meriva and Opel Vivaro. Nodiesel versions are offered. The Opel Insigniais currently unavailable, and the Opel Vectra was never offered there due to a lack of popularity formidsize cars in South Africa.
